With an all discrete amplifier section, 192KHz/24-bit DACs, Dolby Digital EX, DTS ES 6.1, Pro Logic II and Circle Surround 6.1, music and movies will sound more dynamic than ever before. With the flexibility of Component and S-video switching, optical and coaxial digital inputs/outputs and 6.1 direct inputs for multi-channel sources such as SACD and DVD-A, the SR5400 has nearly everything you want in a home theater receiver. 6.1 playback adds a rear-center speaker to the standard 5.1 channel surround mix. Only certain discs have this seventh channel of audiodiscs marked with "THX Surround EX" or "DTS-ES". Adding the center rear channel adds richness and depth to the playback of any movie. There are a lot of 6.1 receivers available these days, but not all feature 6.1 channel power. Some 6.1 receivers offer all the speaker outputs needed, but dont include a built-in amplifier for the new rear center channel. That means you may need a second mono amplifier to run the new channel. This is not a problem with the 5400. It provides 90 watts to 6 channels.
