"Stanton's STR8-80 turntable has some unique features that any vinyl-lover is sure to appreciate. Perhaps the two most exciting ones are the digital output and the ability to play 78 RPM records. The STR8-80's digital output lets you record all of your favorite albums onto CD, MD or even your computer. The pitch can be changed in a range of +/-8%, +/-12% using the pitch slider A quartz lock On/Off button lets you return to the normal speed of rotation at the touch of a button. A pitch correction feature enables the key tone to be kept constant even when the platter speed is changed with the slider. The STR8-80 also has a built-in, selectable phono pre-amp, for connection to virtually any receiver, whether it has a phono input or not. Back in the day it was believed that an S-shaped tone arm was the favorable choice. The S-shaped arm was designed to pull the needle towards the center of the record for better tracking. Now that turntables are more widely used by professional DJs, things are a little different. During back cueing, the needle is being pushed toward the outside of the record, creating opposite forces. This causes the headshell to shake back and forth rapidly, which normally results in skipping. However with the straight arm that the STR8-80 employs, inside and outside forces are eliminated, leaving only forward or backward tracking force to prevent skipping. The STR8-80 includes a 520 SK cartridge, pre-mounted in a headshell. This headshell allows for use in two or more settings. The first setting is with the cartridge straight in-line with the headshell and tone arm. The slots provided allow for positioning forward and backward to accommodate the cartridge and user. The second setting has the cartridge set at an angle to the headshell and tone arm. There are a series of dots on the top of the headshell to aid in aligning the cartridge at an angle tangent
